Passé Simple – Cluny en Suisse – Special issue
Here’s one more inspiring and incredible adventure for my brain, my scalpel and my glue stick!
Cluny. A strong network accross Europe at an ancient time when connecting people, building bridges, growing a project such as this monastic order reflected way more commitment than we could nowadays imagine with our modern tools.
So few of it remains standing today but Switzerland hosts about 30 sites that form a worthseeing rich and diverse heritage.
This special issue of Passé Simple traces the grandeur of Cluny and presents the driving forces of the European art history for the conservation of this powerful heritage.
A huge thank you to Christine Mercier and Justin Favrod of Passé Simple for their continued trust. Each issue contributes to the growth of both my illustration activity and my understanding of history. What a chance to be able to work like this.
Passé simple is a monthly magazine dealing with the French-speaking part of Switzerland’s past. Its vocation is to address all audiences and to invite a large number of specialists from all kinds of backgrounds. Apolitical and non-confessional, it aims to be both instructive and pleasant. It deals with various subjects, from the origin of wine in Valais to the fate of General Dufour, from the recipe of the Malakoff to the creation of the canton of Jura. The periodical devotes a large part to the history of art, mentalities, literature, wars, science, economics and politics. Passé simple also deals with events that ocurred from prehistory to the year 2000. The magazine favors narrative over demonstration. Its baseline says: « It happened close to yours, but slightly before. »
